Who we are

Curious Handmade ("we", "us") is a limited company, based in Jersey, Channel Islands. We are responsible for your personal information when you use this website and our courses, patterns and community. What we collect and why

We only collect what we need.

When you sign up for a freebie or our newsletter, Curious News: your name and email address. We use them to send you the download and, as you've agreed, our newsletter and marketing emails.
When you buy a course or pattern: your name, email address and billing details. Payments are handled by Stripe, so we never see or store your full card number. We use your details to give you access, send receipts and look after your account.
When you use a course or our community: your progress and anything you post.
When you get in touch, including through our brand enquiry form: your name, email address and message, so we can reply.
When you visit this website: technical information such as your device, browser and the pages you view, collected through cookies and similar tools (see "Cookies" below).
If you join our affiliate programme: your name, email address and [payout details], so we can track sales and pay your commission.

Our reasons for using your information

We only collect what we need.

To give you what you've bought or signed up for (contract)
To send marketing emails, only if you've signed up and agreed (consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time
To run, secure and improve our website and business (legitimate interests)
To keep records the law requires, such as accounts and tax records (legal obligation)

Marketing

When you sign up for a freebie or Curious News, you're added to the Curious Handmade marketing database. We'll email you about new patterns, free downloads, sewalongs, tips, special offers and competitions. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed. We never sell your details.

We use trusted companies to help us run Curious Handmade and our tech infrastructure. They handle your information on our behalf, and only for these purposes:

Kajabi: hosts our website, courses, community and emails
Stripe: processes payments
Meta (Facebook and Instagram): provides advertising tools such as the Meta Pixel, and hosts our private Facebook group, which is also covered by Facebook's own privacy policy

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights.

Where your information goes

Some of these companies are based outside Jersey, the UK and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information.

Cookies

This website uses cookies and similar tools to make it work, to understand how people use it, and to measure and improve our advertising, including through the Meta Pixel. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies using the banner on the site, and you can change your browser settings at any time. You can also manage the ads you see in your Facebook and Instagram settings.

How long we keep your information

Newsletter and marketing: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your details.
Customer and payment records: six years, to meet accounting and tax requirements.
Enquiries and messages: two years after our last contact.

Keeping it safe

We use reputable providers and take sensible steps to protect your information. No online service is completely secure, so please use a strong password for any account you create with us.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

Show you the information we hold about you
Correct anything that's wrong
Delete your information
Restrict or object to how we use it
Give you a copy in a format you can reuse
Stop sending you marketing, which you can do at any time

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Information Commissioner in Jersey (jerseyoic.org) or, if you live in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date at the top.
